Ideally suited for Pinot Noir, the predominant soil type is Goldridge, derived from an ancient inland sea that slowly emptied into the Pacific Ocean. Its excellent drainage and low soil fertility allow us to create a balanced vineyard ecosystem yielding exceptional, high-quality fruit without irrigation. The vineyard’s gently sloping southeastern exposure combined with 35+ year vine age yield poised, complex and age-worthy wines.
Perfumed aromas of fresh strawberry and lilac unfurl from the glass to introduce the 2021 vintage— a pure expression of Pinot Noir fruit with refined flavors of Bing cherry, strawberry, and blood orange. Partial whole-cluster fermentation contributes to the gentle tannins and silky texture while giving a lift and transparency to the floral red fruits. Added dimensions of lavender, fresh basil, and Tahitian vanilla bean round out the finish. Although this is highly enjoyable upon release, if given time in the bottle these flavors will continue to gain complexity and appeal.
