“Even more impressive is the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Darius II, a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Still an infant, this opaque purple-colored wine offers up beautifully sweet loamy soil notes intermixed with crème de cassis, blueberry liqueur and brioche characteristics. There is more minerality in this impressively full-bodied effort along with stunning purity, depth and overall equilibrium. Give it another 4-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25-30 years.”

“A rather deliberate yet successful attempt at bigger is better, this impresses with its density, concentration and range of flavors, a mix of melted black licorice, dried berry, cedar and tobacco. Best from 2014 through 2024.”

“Packs in lots of deep, ripe plum, blackberry and wild berry flavors shaded by cedary, toasty oak, with touches of black licorice and sage. Full-bodied, firm and structured, this is a powerful style that’s notably well-oaked but also impeccably balanced, smooth and at points fleshy, before the tannins firm up. Best from 2012 through 2024.”

2007 Darius II Cabernet Sauvignon | Rating: 94

“The 2007 Darius II Cabernet Sauvignon is more tightly kit and restrained aromatically, but what is there is impressive.  A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by aromas of graphite, spring flowers, black currants, and sweet black cherries.  The wine hits the palate with tremendous opulence, richness, and intensity.  The complexity does not yet equal the 2006, but there is more to it.  The texture is richer, the finish is longer, and the seamlessness of the wine’s overall personality is flawless.  This beauty should hit its peak in 3-4 years, and last for 20-25.”

“Darioush’s flagship wine, the 2006 Darius II Cabernet Sauvignon (just under 500 cases produced) boasts a big, creamy, oaky nose displaying abundant aromas of crème de cassis, blackberries, licorice, and camphor.  The opaque purple-colored, full-bodied, opulent 2006 is performing even better than the 2007 at this stage.  With considerable complexity as well as accessibility, this beauty should drink well for 15-20 years.”
