Darioush Signature Viognier * Napa Valley
Robb Report's Best of the Best 2014: Domestic White Wines: Darioush 2012 Signature Viognier
"The Darioush winery on Napa Valley’s Silverado Trail is utterly unique, and not only for of its architecture, which combines a romantic vision of the ancient Persian capital of Persepolis with the streamlined, steel-and-glass vernacular of a contemporary nightclub. These elements reflect the multifaceted personality of the winery’s owner, Darioush Khaledi, a longtime wine enthusiast and collector who emigrated to the United States in the late 1970s from the Shiraz region of Iran. Khaledi’s blending of cultures and tradition with innovative thinking influences not only the building but also the character of the wines, which are classically structured yet extravagant in their flourishes. The Darioush 2012 Signature Viognier, for example, is perfumed with mimosa, tangerine blossom, and lemongrass, and its fleshy texture complements its flavors of pear, peach, honeycomb, and candied ginger. Still, this riotous array of sensations combines on the finish to strike a sustained and satisfying chord of gentle acidity." — Brett Anderson (www.robbreport.com)

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine - March 2013
"It has seemed to us that the best Viogniers, whether from here or elsewhere, are wines of succulence, size and generous fruit. This deep, very well-endowed working more than supports the argument, and its ample infusion of oak adds a distinctive bit of richness all its own. Full and firm and nicely balanced for the big wine that it is, it ends with a flourish of citrus, stones and sweet spice, and its solidity suggests that it will grow for a few years and hold for a good many more."
Robb Report's Best of the Best 2012: Domestic White Wines: Darioush 2010 Signature Viognier
"Nothing about Darioush, one of Napa Valley’s most impressive wineries, is restrained. The building is an epic structure of glass and Persian travertine that rises up from among rows of impeccably tended vines along Napa Valley’s Silverado Trail. It reflects not only the heritage of its owner, vintner Darioush Khaledi, who immigrated to the United States from Iran in the 1970s, but also the style of winemaker Steve Devitt’s wines, which are bold yet classically inspired. The Darioush 2010 Signature Viognier is suffused with essences of crisp green apple, creamy pear, orange blossom, nectarine, and honeysuckle."

"A Taste for the Unusual" by ROBB REPORT, Brett Anderson
"One of the most unusual and delightful of Darioush winemaker Steve Devitt's wines is the fascinating and ethereal Viognier, which combines concentration with an oddly elusive, otherworldly quality that makes one think of sunlight and moonlight blended. Thick with heady scents of jasmine, orange blossom, and honeysuckle, the Darioush 2004 Signature Viognier produces an intense, lush melon flavor on the palate before evaporating in a finish as delicate as a mirage.”

Robb Report For the Luxury Lifestyle - June 2005
"The 2003 Darioush Viognier Napa Valley possesses texture and flavors so concentrated, the wine almost suggests a honey made from the pollen of honeydew melon, jasmine, citrus blossom, and honeysuckle. Amazingly, this Rhone-style white is not especially sweet; rather it pools luxuriously on the palate, then, like a summer raindrop, evaporates refreshingly.”
